Rachael Rapinoe is the CEO and co-founder of Mendi, an innovative CBD startup with a focus on athletic recovery.
You already know that I’m a huge fan of CBD, but what you may not know is that I’m also a huge Rapinoe fan.
Rachael played professional soccer before launching the business with her twin sister Megan, who you’ll almost certainly recognize as she helped lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to victories in the 2015 and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Needless to say, when I found out that the Rapinoe sisters started a CBD company, I eagerly purchased one of their products. I haven’t been able to find hemp-derived salve sticks in many stores, so I was excited to give Mendi’s a try. I can happily say that not only was the ordering process a breeze, but the quality of the product itself was impressive and shipped within a day.
Now, you’d think that someone starting a CBD business would typically be a long-time cannabis user. Not the Rapinoe sisters. Rachael revealed in our interview that she and Megan did not use cannabis growing up and were actually quite fearful of it.
This didn’t surprise me so much given their background, though. After all, cannabis use is particularly stigmatized in professional sports.

Influenced by that experience, Mendi prides itself on bringing two unique points of view to the industry. That is, being both a trusted brand and an educational one made specifically for athletes.
I’ve written a lot about the mindset of a startup’s founder and how critical it is to the success of the company they build. And when I spoke to Rachael, it was clear to me that she embodies that entrepreneurial spirit.
