Whole Foods Markets has expanded topical CBD offerings in over a dozen more states, bringing the total to nearly 400 nationwide.
Whole Foods announced it will increase topical CBD product offerings in an additional 13 states.
The states newly involved in the product expansion are as follows: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
The company’s CEO John Mackey spoke about the likelihood of Whole Foods ever offering cannabis on its shelves, and we discussed what that could really mean for consumers.
Customer interest in CBD has been growing according to Jennifer Coleman, the Global Senior Category Merchant for grocery chain.
“We’re thrilled to roll out topical CBD products in even more stores and to share new, exclusive items from our longstanding supplier partner Pacha Soap Co,” Coleman said in a press release.
Also included in the press release was the announcement of an exclusive line of CBD bath products.
Given the FDA‘s position on CBD in food, this move from a grocer as large as Whole Foods is intriguing, but still has its limits. Just as with liquor, it’s likely there will be separation between THC products and what’s offered in the rest of the store due to local regulations.
Whole Foods assures customers that products being offered have to meet “rigorous” standards set for all body care items found on their shelves. Ultimately, CBD is way too big of a product to pass up on for a retailer focused on wellness.
